FAQ’s

Do I need to book or can we just turn up?

We would always recommend booking as during busy times we run out of bikes up to 48 hours in advance.  Also, pre-paid booking customers usually enjoy faster service on the day, getting you into the forest even faster!

Do you deliver?

Yes, we do provide a delivery service.  We require at least 48 hours advance notice, and delivery charge may apply depending on order and distance from our base at BH20 5DS.  To find out more, please get in touch via our enquiry form.

Where can I cycle in the Isle of Purbeck?

We are lucky to have miles of well maintained off-road forest tracks dedicated to cyclists, taking you to all the best sights in the forest all the way to the beach.  You can find terrain perfect for families and leisure cyclists, or some challenging routes with hills for the more adventurous!  We can guide you to the best cycling to suit you, and you can see our routes here.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes!  All friendly pets are welcome in the Isle of Purbeck and in our store, however we currently don’t have dog trailers for hire.  It is best to avoid long or fast rides with your four legged friends.

What are your age restrictions?

We can cater from 9 months to 90 years!  For babies, although 9 months is our recommendation, it is essential for them to be able to sit up and support their neck.  For older riders, it is really down to whether you feel comfortable cycling.  We offer a range of electric* and all ability bikes to make sure all ages and abilities can enjoy a day our cycling!

*Electric bike riders must be minimum 14 years old

What should I wear?

It is always best to bear in mind the weather, but here are some tips that will make you as comfy as possible whilst cycling:

  • wear comfortable underwear or padded cycling shorts
  • wear shorts or trousers you would jog in (best to avoid Jeans if possible)
  • start by wearing a breathable and comfortable top, then add layers as necessary depending on the weather
  • try to carry an extra layer because you may cool down when you stop for a break (we supply rucksacks with plenty of extra space)

We also have a Leisure Store on sight with lots of great quality clothing options in all sizes if you’re caught short, so don’t worry!

Whatever takes your fancy. We have served customers dressed in pirate outfits and mankinis to name but a few. But for practical reasons, we recommend clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and shoes without big heels. We don’t have rainwear for rent but can sell you a jacket from our retail shop.

Am I likely to have an accident?

Cycling off road is generally very safe, but it is worth taking note of these most `popular’ accidents:

  • Having a little too much to drink at lunchtime can affect your ability to judge risks!
  • UK bike brake setup (Front = Right, Rear = Left) is the opposite to many countries so pulling what you think might be the back brake is actually the front brake and could send you sailing over the bars! Use 60% rear and 40% front down hills.
  • Attempting stunts that you are either too old for or not equipped with the sufficient skill set to carry out safely!
  • Riding too fast, and misjudging rough terrain, tight bends, loose gravel, other forest users. Please note, as a cyclist in the New Forest you are required to give way to other forest users.

What is your cancellation policy?

Given 24 hrs notice we can provide a full refund for your booking. If you cancel any closer to your booking we can move your booking for no extra cost or provide a refund less a 20% admin surcharge.

Do you have toilet facilities?

Yes, there are public toilets in Norden Park & Ride car park, right next to our centre.

Do you offer concessions?

Yes, we offer a 10% discount for:

  • Students
  • NHS employees
  • OAPs

What happens if I'm late collecting my bikes?

If you have paid in advance, then we will keep the bikes for you. Later than this, we may have already turned away other customers and can’t offer a refund.

If you only have a provisional (unpaid) booking and haven’t turned up or spoken to us by 11.30am, then we reserve the right to give your bikes to other customers rather than turn the business away.

What happens if I'm late back?

Just give us a call and let us know how long you will be and whether you have encountered any problems. We are understanding and will make sure someone stays behind after hours as long as we know where you are.

Is there anywhere to get food near you?

Yes, there is a snack bar on Norden train station platform!  Also, most of our routes take you near a pub to grab a meal and a drink on the way around.
